Old Bones, February 1 1998...
West coast music award winner Wyckham Porteous's 4th album "In This World" is
completed and due for Canadian release the week of February 24 th. This is a
masterwork of songwriting and performance. "In This World" was produced by Moris Tepper of Captain Beefheart, Tom Waites and the Pixies fame. The mixing engineer is Joe Chiccarelli (U2, Frank Zappa, Beck and many more). With players like Pat Steward of the Odds and Moris Tepper on guitar this is an album that is guaranteed to rock you.
Digging a little deeper we find one of our new artists Luann Kowalek set to release her 2nd album "Late Night Heroes" on April 15. Luann is another of ragged pups strong songwriters with a voice and a sensibility that is about to make her a top dog. The album was recorded in Edmonton by Producer Rick Fenton (CBC Saturday Night Blues) and engineered by Nashville based Miles Wilkinson (John Prine, Emmy Lou Harris). Players on the album include drummer Miche Pouliout, Mike Lent, Ron Casat and vocal backups by Lin Elders (Jan Arden). This one is off its leash and running at large.
The newest member of the pack to sign with ragged pup is Bill Bourne (Bourne and McLeod). Bill is in the studio now and will be releasing his new solo album in April. This unique songwriter album promises to be a classic. It also is produced by Rick Fenton and Miles Wilkinson at Edmonton's Beta Sound Studios.
We have barely scratched the surface on one of Canada's newest "Indie" labels. With national distribution through Pacific Music/'nuff Entertainment and the more than capable help of publicist, Flohil and Associates, the future sounds bright for ragged pup and its pedigree artists.
