Meet this Cordova Bay/Ragged Pup Records Artist...
- Myk Gordon
Like many of the artists that inspire him Myk Gordon's music has been described as "ambitious", "creative", "a fusion of roots, country blues, soul, R&B and rock." As a young boy growing up in Vancouver he picked up a guitar at age 10 and had his first garage band by age 13, when the Vancouver punk music scene was in it's heyday. |

This Vancouver-born performer has attracted critical acclaim as an equally talented singer, guitarist and songwriter. Myk's authenticity, vulnerability and emotional presence make him a powerful performer and a compelling artist. Drawing on folk, blues, country and rock, his crafted song writing has earned him a dedicated following for his "poetic handling of folk and pop".
Myk picked up a guitar at age 10 and had his first garage band by 13, when the Vancouver punk scene was in its heyday. His second of three albums, Seventh Candle, was voted one of the top independent CDs of 1994 by The Province newspaper. The 1998 release of his latest album, Lonely, on Cordova Bay/Ragged Pup Records, confirms his talent for merging "pop hooks with intelligent lyrics." Lonely has generated airplay in Canada, USA, Australia, Europe and the United Kingdom.
Myk has shared the stage with performers from Guy Davis to Emmylou Harris and Joan Osbourne. After an opening set for Vonda Shepard in 1998 before a sold-out audience of 1,200 in Vancouver, people lined up to the back of the theatre for CDs and autographs. He has also performed to enthusiastic audiences at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, the 25th Anniversary Dawson City Music Festival, North Country Fair, Under The Volcano Festival, and Canadian Music Week. He has twice been featured on CBC Radio and continues to build respect in critical circles abroad. As with his debut CD, Myk's new album, Lonely, made the Vancouver Province's year-end list of top independent releases in 1998. Myk has worked with an impressive roster of musicians, including Blue Rodeo's Bazil Donovan (bass) and James Gray (organ/piano); and drummer Charlie Quintana (Bob Dylan, Cracker, Joan Osbourne). He is currently based in London, England, where he is preparing material for a new album.
