Meet this Cordova Bay/Ragged Pup Records Artist...
- David Gogo
The true blues guitar is back. The February 1999 release of Nanaimo, B.C. native David Gogo's album Bare Bones on the ragged pup records label signaled the beginning of a new phase in the career of "... one of this country's hottest bluesmen". |

This album, one of four albums released by Cordova Bay/ragged pup, is a departure from his traditional electric guitar driven projects and steps back to the acoustic roots of the music he loves. His mastery of the National Steel guitar, and for that matter every kind of guitar, mixed with his distinctive vocal style creates a collection of music that will attract everyone from the acoustic blues purists to the funk rock fans.
After taking time off to re establish his musical sense of direction Gogo is ready to show that he truly stands amongst the many great names he has played with on world stages. With his band the Persuaders he has shared the stage with the likes of Johnny Winter, John Mayall, The Blues Traveller, B.B. King and Albert Collins. He toured in Europe with The Fabulous Thunderbirds and in the U.S. with Joe Satriani and now he is set to step out and create his own distinctive mark on the world.
February appears to be an auspicious month for David. February 1997 saw the release of his raucous Dine Under The Stars (Cordova Bay re-released this in the USA and Canada) along with the acoustic complement - Bare Bones - in February 1999. These coup de resistance performances capture the high energy performance style that is Gogo's trademark as both an electric and acoustic "take no prisoners" live performer. The 3rd release by Gogo in 1999 was the electric studio recording - Change of Pace. This album has seen three rock singles released: Sad & Lonely, Face in the Mirror and the Bob Dylan classic (It's All Over Now) Baby Blue.
Halfway To Memphis - an electric blues studio recording, brought new fans to David's camp. Highlights include the title track along with a brilliant version of James Brown's This is a Man's World.
Gogo's latest release - Skeleton Key - introduces something new for him - horns! This recording has been receiving mucho attention with its strong production and tracks that conjure up soul and R&B influences along the line of the Memphis based STAX Records. Key tracks are Reap What You Sow, (Just Ask) Jesse James, Skeleton Key and the first rock single Personal Jesus - a hit when originally released by Depeche Mode. A limited edition collectors edition of this album was released along with the standard version. The collectors edition sports two bonus tracks and a nifty DigiPak look.
Gogo has been compared to "Johnny Winter singing with Stevie Ray Vaughan". He has been nominated for Juno's and was named Musician of the Year by the Pacific Music Industry Association. He has been lauded and applauded and now he is back and he's "rawkin".
